વર્નિયર કેલિપરની લઘુત્તમ માપશક્તિ (Least Count - LC) એટલે કે તે સાધન દ્વારા માપી શકાતું નાનામાં નાનું માપ. તે શોધવા માટે મુખ્યત્વે બે રીત છે:

૧. સૂત્રની રીત (સૌથી સરળ)

લઘુત્તમ માપશક્તિ શોધવાનું મુખ્ય સૂત્ર નીચે મુજબ છે:

$$LC=\frac{\text{મુખ્ય સ્કેલના એક વિભાગનું મૂલ્ય (Value of 1 MSD)}}{\text{વર્નિયર સ્કેલના કુલ વિભાગની સંખ્યા (Total Divisions on Vernier Scale)}}$$

ઉદાહરણ તરીકે:

• ધારો કે મુખ્ય સ્કેલ પર 1 mm ના કાપા છે.

• વર્નિયર સ્કેલ પર કુલ 50 કાપા છે.

• તો $LC=\frac{1\text{ mm}}{50}=0.02\text{ mm}$.

૨. તફાવતની રીત (ગણિતની રીતે)

આ રીતમાં મુખ્ય સ્કેલ અને વર્નિયર સ્કેલના કાપા વચ્ચેનો તફાવત જોવામાં આવે છે.

$$LC=1\text{ MSD}-1\text{ VSD}$$

(MSD = Main Scale Division, VSD = Vernier Scale Division)

પગલાંઓ:

1. 1 MSD શોધો: સામાન્ય રીતે તે 1 mm હોય છે.

2. 1 VSD શોધો: જુઓ કે વર્નિયર સ્કેલના કુલ કાપા (દા.ત. 50) મુખ્ય સ્કેલના કેટલા કાપા (દા.ત. 49) સાથે મેચ થાય છે.

   • અહીં, $50\text{ VSD}=49\text{ MSD}$

   • એટલે કે, $1\text{ VSD}=49/50\text{ MSD}=0.98\text{ mm}$

3. તફાવત ગણો:

   • $LC=1\text{ mm}-0.98\text{ mm}=0.02\text{ mm}$

૩. અલગ-અલગ વર્નિયર માટે LC ના પ્રકાર

યાદ રાખો: તમે જ્યારે પણ નવું વર્નિયર કેલિપર હાથમાં લો, ત્યારે સૌથી પહેલા તેના વર્નિયર સ્કેલના કુલ કાપા ગણી લો. તેનાથી તમને તરત જ તેની ચોકસાઈ (Accuracy) ખબર પડી જશે.
